ALIMENTOS NOCIVOS PARA NUESTROS CANES

Nosotros como dueños solemos preguntarnos cuáles son los alimentos, en este caso verduras, que nuestros engreídos de cuatro patas, pueden consumir o cuáles son dañinos para ellos. 

He aquí algunas de las verduras que NO debemos darles con una breve explicación

Cebollas y ajos

Estos alimentos además de los puerros, las cebolletas, etc… contienen tiosulfato, que puede destruir los glóbulos de la sangre canina y causarles anemia. Además pueden ocasionar letargo, taquicardia, hiperventilación, encías pálidas y en casos graves, colapso respiratorio.

Hongos y Setas

Al igual que con nosotros los humanos, algunos hongos o setas son tóxicos para los perros, por lo que es necesario mantener vigilado a tu mascota al pasear por los parques o jardines para que no coma hongos o setas.

Patatas o papas verdes y crudas

Las patatas o papas son ingredientes de varias comidas para perros. Sin embargo, lo que le hace mal a nuestros perros es consumir patata o papa que no esté bien cocida o que este verde (inmadura) ya que les puede producir náuseas, vómitos e incluso convulsiones. 

Ruibarbo

Este vegetal no es apto para nuestro amigo canino; sus hojas y tallos reducen el nivel de calcio en el cuerpo de los perros, lo que puede llevar a una insuficiencia renal.

Por lo que si te das cuenta de que tu perro puede haber ingerido cualquiera de estos alimentos, no dudes en llevarlo al veterinario, preferiblemente identificando lo que ha ingerido, facilitando así la labor del especialista para su tratamiento.

Recordemos que no todo lo que es sano para nosotros, lo es para nuestros canes.

HARMFUL FOODS FOR OUR DOGS

We, as owners, usually ask ourselves what are the foods, in this case vegetables, that our cocky four-legged, can consume or which are harmful to them.

Here are some of the vegetables we should NOT give you with a brief explanation:

Onions and garlic

These foods in addition to leeks, chives, etc ... contain thiosulfate, which destroy cannabis blood cells and cause anemia. They can also cause lethargy, tachycardia, hyperventilation, pale gums and in severe cases, respiratory collapse.

Mushrooms

Some mushrooms are toxic to dogs (as humans are) so it is necessary to look out our pet when we take a walk through parks or gardens.

Green potatoes

Potatoes are ingredients of several dog foods. However, what makes our dogs ill is to consume potatoes  that are not well cooked or green (immature) as they can cause nausea, vomiting and even convulsions.

Rhubarb

This vegetable is not suitable for our canine friend; Their leaves and stems reduce the level of calcium in the body of dogs, which can lead to kidney failure.

So if you realize that your dog may have ingested any of these foods, do not hesitate to take him to the vet, preferably identifying what he has eaten, thus facilitating the work of the specialist for its treatment.

Remember that not everything that is healthy for us, it is for our dogs.

LOS GATOS Y EL APIO

Conversando días atrás con un amigo, que al igual que yo tiene en casa perro y gato (sabiendo que esta página es dedicada a ambos especímenes), me comentaba que su gato había estado hurgando entre la verdura y tuvo un especial interés en el apio. 

Los gatos, de acuerdo a mi experiencia, son una de las especies que más cuidado tienen en su alimentación, ya que ellos, por instinto, identifican qué vegetales deben y no deben comer. Sin embargo y ante la duda, decidí investigar más acerca del apio y la alimentación felina. 

La adición del apio a la dieta de los gatos es perfectamente segura. Sólo debemos tener cuidado de no desequilibrar su dieta general alimentándolos demasiado, o sustituyendo su alimento normal.

El apio es rico en vitaminas y también contiene fibra, los cuales son suplementos que valen la pena que esté en su dieta.

El apio también tiene propiedades diuréticas. En esencia, el consumo de apio puede ayudar a limpiar el sistema y al buen funcionamiento del hígado.

Una pequeña cantidad de apio también ayudará a estimular el apetito. Y si su gato está sufriendo de algún trastorno digestivo, el apio puede ayudar a aliviar el dolor del estómago.

Sin embargo, debemos recordar que los gatos son carnívoros obligados. Esto significa que no tienen una necesidad de verduras y frutas como nosotros. En muchos casos los gatos son capaces de obtener los nutrientes que faltan de la presa que comen, y en el caso de los gatos totalmente domesticados, del alimento balanceado que compramos.

Así que si su gato desea comer apio, es porque lo necesita. Siempre prestando atención a la cantidad. 

Cats and celery

Talking days ago with a friend, who like me has dog and cat (knowing that this page is dedicated to both specimens), he told me that his cat had been digging through the vegetables and had a special interest in celery.

Cats, according to my experience, are one of the most careful animals with their feeding, they instinctively indentify which vegetables they should and should not eat. However, and in order to clear my doubts, I decided to investigate more about celery and feline food.

The addition of celery to the diet of cats is perfectly safe. We should only be careful not to unbalance your overall diet by feeding them too much, or by substituting their normal food.

Celery is rich in vitamins and also contains fiber, all of which are worthwhile supplements to your cats diet.

Celery also has diuretic properties. In essence the consumption of celery can help flush out the system and aid liver function.

A small amount of celery will also help stimulate appetite. And if your cat is suffering from a little digestive upset, some celery can help ease the pain by settling the stomach.

However, we should remember that cats are carnivores. This means that, they do not have a need for vegetables and fruits as we do. In many cases cats are able to get those missing nutrients from the prey they eat, and in the case of fully domesticated cats, from the balanced cat food we buy.

So, if your cat wants to eat celery, it's beacuse it needs it. Always we must be careful with the amount.
